Our Story
After searching for months for the perfect spot for a coffee shop, owner Sandy fell in love with 42 Wellington Street East. The building is steeped (café pun intended) in history, once housing the town’s first shoemaker. Sandy loved the idea that her business would follow in a tradition of serving the community. As a Canadian history nerd with Maritime roots, she also liked that the 162-year-old house was built in the saltbox style, which is rare in Ontario but an iconic sight out East.
Sandy worked her first restaurant job at 16, and decades later, she still relishes the day-to-day interactions with customers and the satisfaction that comes with serving good food and drinks. As a first-time coffee shop owner, Sandy and her team look forward to offering you a warm and gracious welcome to Saltbox Cafe.

Free parking available behind the cafe, entrance off Wellington. Street parking also available between 9AM-4PM Monday to Friday, any time on the weekend.
